Menschen für Menschen paves the way for a better future
A total of 26,053 kilometres of country roads, of which less than 4,000 kilometres are paved, traverse Ethiopia’s rugged landscape. A single railway line connects Addis Ababa to Djibuti. The few weather-prone links severely restrict internal trade, and in the rainy season the few asphalted transport routes are often impassable. People are frequently cut off from markets and medical services for weeks.
Menschen für Menschen is helping to develop the project areas with a modest but well-constructed network of roads and paths to meet requirements. Eight major bridges have been constructed over rivers which are difficult to cross. These improvements in infrastructure enable hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people to safely reach the markets, educational facilities and medical stations.
