Integrated rural development – our approach

Menschen für Menschen
wants to trigger long-term, sustainable changes. To this end the aid organisation is committed to the principle of "integrated rural development projects". Various interconnected projects aimed at sustainable development are being initiated together with the local population, who contribute great commitment and labour: road and bridge construction for accessing remote regions; improved farming and animal rearing activities to secure food supplies; terrace construction and reafforestation to prevent soil erosion; building of wells, springs and reservoirs to ensure the supply of clean drinking water; schools, training centres and student hostels in response to the lack of educational facilities; hospitals and medical centres to counter the lack of medical care facilities; training programmes and educational campaigns for improving the position of women.

In addition, Menschen für Menschen also provides emergency aid, for instance in the case of famine. To ensure that the funds arrive where they are needed, the organisation only conducts emergency measures directly in the project regions and adjoining areas. There the organisation’s own logistics and infrastructure can be used to distribute relief supplies. Even the purchase of supplies is always organised by Menschen für Menschen itself.
